Broodwing Beginner Guide

Broodwing Wiki editors Updated

On this page

Broodwing drops you into a huge valley as a wild bird with one job: live the full life of the flock. You fly, hunt, build a nest, lay eggs and raise chicks — and if you pick the cuckoo, you skip the nest-building entirely and hatch in somebody else’s home instead. This guide walks through your first hour and the tricks that save new players the most trouble.

Everything here comes from the official game description, verified launch-week gameplay videos and the developer’s own announcements on the official Discord. Where a mechanic comes from a single gameplay source, we say so.

The core loop

The official description lays the loop out in four steps: fly, hunt, build a nest and raise your own family of baby birds with friends. In practice a first session looks like this:

  1. Spawn in and pick your bird.
  2. Learn the flight controls and, most importantly, the Q landing trick below.
  3. Hunt fish and bunnies to feed yourself.
  4. Gather nesting materials and build a nest in a spot you like.
  5. Lay eggs, wait for them to hatch and raise your chicks into adults.
  6. Join or form a family and roleplay together.

The game runs on servers of up to 35 players, so the valley is shared: every nest you see may belong to another player, and every player can see yours.

Choosing your first bird

Six birds are confirmed playable as of October 28, 2026:

  • Duck — the classic all-rounder waterfowl, featured on the game icon. Two paid color variants exist (Melanistic and Leucistic, 250 Robux each).
  • Bald Eagle — the bird of prey. A leucistic variant is sold as a gamepass (450 Robux) that also works in Village Survival.
  • Raven — the nest raider. Player reports say ravens can only attack chicks, not adults.
  • Cuckoo — the brood parasite. It hatches into another bird’s nest, and its chick shoves the host’s eggs or chicks out.
  • Canadian Goose — the valley’s most visible nester and the star of the key art, renamed from the original Goose on October 23, 2026.
  • Gosling — the baby goose added the same day; whether it is a separate playable bird or the chick stage of the Canadian Goose is not documented yet.

Every bird plays the same core loop; the differences are flavor and special mechanics like the cuckoo’s parasitism or the raven’s chick predation. See the birds page for the full roster.

Flying and landing (the Q trick)

Flight is the heart of Broodwing — the valley is huge, and your nest, hunting grounds and the water are all spread across it. The one skill that separates a smooth first hour from a frustrating one is landing:

  • While flying, unlock your mouse and look for the small target reticle that appears on landing spots.
  • Aim the reticle at your nest edge while flying past and press Q — your bird automatically lands on whatever you aimed at.
  • The same trick works from the ground onto trees: stand still, wait for the target to appear, then press Q to hop up.

Players in launch coverage highlight this as the difference between “I can never land” and first-try landings, so practice it before you invest in a nest.

Hunting fish and bunnies

The official description names two prey types: fish in the valley’s rivers and lakes, and bunnies on land. Hunt to keep yourself fed; grown birds also produce the next generation, so a well-fed parent is a productive parent.

One warning from a raven player: predation against other players’ chicks is part of the game — you can kill and eat babies in other nests — but adult animals are off the table for ravens. The valley is a shared ecosystem, and your chick is somebody else’s potential meal.

Building your nest

Nesting is where Broodwing turns from a flight sim into a family sim:

  1. Gather materials. Nesting needs materials gathered around the valley. Down feathers are one of them — and players report the easiest way to get them is to sit in your nest, because they appear underneath you while you sit.
  2. Pick a location. Placement matters: launch coverage calls out choosing optimal locations, and a hidden spot is harder for raiders to find than a landmark everyone knows.
  3. Build and maintain. Once the nest stands, you can lay eggs in it.

Eggs, chicks and growing up

Lay eggs in your nest and, in time, they hatch into chicks. Chicks grow up into adults, closing the loop — official copy is explicit: “hatch as a baby bird and grow up into an adult.” The October 23 update added goslings alongside the Canadian Goose rename, so goose families now raise their own fluffy babies.

Guard the nest while eggs incubate. Other players can destroy eggs and kill chicks, and the game’s temporary 16+ rating exists exactly because of this.

Families and roleplay

Broodwing is officially a survival and roleplay game. You can join a family and raise chicks together with friends — a group of adults guarding one nest is far safer than a solo parent, and the family structure is the game’s answer to the nest-raiding meta.

Nest raiding and staying safe

The PvP layer is real: ravens raid nests, cuckoos parasitize them, and any player can attack unguarded eggs and chicks. Practical defenses from launch coverage:

  • Nest in a location that is easy for you to reach but not a well-known landmark.
  • Take turns guarding — one adult sitting the nest while the others hunt.
  • If you play the cuckoo, remember the host mother watches the nest closely; your chick’s eviction act happens under her eye.
  • The 16+ rating is temporary “until Roblox finishes checking its maturity rating”, so the PvP rules may change — watch the official Discord announcements.

Spending Robux: what the gamepasses actually do

Broodwing sells exactly three gamepasses, all cosmetic bird color variants, verified against the official Roblox API on October 28, 2026:

Pass Price What it does
Leucistic Bald Eagle 450 White eagle variant; also works in Village Survival
Melanistic Duck 250 Dark-morph duck variant
Leucistic Duck 250 Pale duck variant

There is no pay-to-win layer: no stat boosts, no speed multipliers, no codes. If you want to support the developer, the duck variants are the cheap entry and the eagle variant doubles as a Village Survival pass.

FAQ

Is Broodwing free?

Yes. Broodwing is a free Roblox game. The only purchases are three optional gamepass bird color variants (250 and 450 Robux), and the Leucistic Bald Eagle pass also works in the sister game Village Survival.

How do I land on my nest without crashing?

Unlock your mouse, aim the target reticle at the nest edge while flying past, then press Q — your bird auto-lands on whatever you aimed at. Players report this works on trees from the ground too: wait for the target to appear, then press Q to hop up.

Why is Broodwing 16+?

The developer set the game to 16+ temporarily while Roblox finishes checking its maturity rating. The rating reflects PvP nest raiding — you can attack other players' eggs and chicks.

What is the fastest way to get down feathers?

Sit in your nest — players report down feathers appear underneath you while you sit, making it the easiest nesting material to gather.

Are there Broodwing codes?

No. Broodwing has no codes system — no codes menu, no codes channel on the official Discord and no codes video on YouTube as of October 28, 2026. Cosmetic variants are sold as gamepasses instead.
